Inoculating Yourself (and Your Program) From Budget Reduction Talk
A reader added some excellent advice for his fellow coaches when it comes to the growing money crisis in college athletics...
I got a lot of feedback on the previous audio post I did on budget cuts and all of the money issues swirling around college sports and higher education, but one coach’s follow-up was so good I wanted to share it. The point the coach makes adds a lot to the overall point I was trying to make.
(The coach wanted to remain anonymous, since this is currently a sensitive conversation around campus where the coach calls home).
Excellent points! Especially in the age of growing public conversation around college athletics, the money that’s spent on it, and the justification for those expenses.
But let’s zoom in on how this high level conversation is going to start affecting your average college coach who just wants to build a program, coach young adults, and live his or her life as best they can. And of course, that person is you.
So in adding on to what this coach so intelligently points out, here are a few additional thoughts:
There is a growing bias against college athletics (and college athletes, and the coaches who coach them)
On the surface, there’s nothing you can do about it as just one coach. Or so it seems.
